In this article, we will show you how to overlay a picture on a video. First, let’s see the reasons one might need to do that. Adding pictures to your videos makes them more informative and adds a professional look to them. For example, you can insert pictures that will serve as examples in tutorial videos. Or in case you are making a video for the blog and recording yourself, you might need to put an image to keep the viewer’s attention and enliven your video sequence. Below, you will find 4 easy steps to overlay an image on a video. We will be using Clipify – an easy-to-use video editor with an intuitive interface and an extensive tool kit. Let’s get started!
- Software Setup
Download the video editor and run the setup file. Follow the wizard to install the program and open it. You will see the start window with several options. Click on New Project and choose Blank project.
- Adding Videos
Now you can add your video files. Clipify supports various video formats – AVI, MP4, MOV and others. Hit the Add Videos and Photos button and import your clips. You can add them one by one, or select several clips and add them all at once to the timeline. If you need, you can edit your videos in a click by applying auto enhancement feature or go with more profound editing, for example adjusting the settings separately or using the Curves tool.
- Overlaying Videos with Pictures
It’s time to put a photo over a video. Switch to the Clipart Tab. Here you can add a sticker or a clipart, or your own image from a file. Hit the “From File” button and select a picture that you want to add. Adjust the image position on the slide – you can drag it to any spot on your video. If you want – resize your image or rotate it by holding the green dot. Then go to the tab on the left and adjust the picture settings. You can make it semitransparent by dragging the Opacity slider, add a shadow or a background if needed.
Now move to the timeline and set the appearance. You can align it with the beginning of the clip or make it appear later. Just drag the image layer to the place where it will emerge. You can change the duration of the overlay layer – use the arrows in the beginning or the end of the layer to stretch it or make it shorter. Go to the Animation tab to set the fade-in and fade-out effects, their mode, speed, and duration.
Once you’ve finished with all the settings, hit Apply and preview the result. You can add several images to your video – they will show up at separate tracks. This way you can adjust their settings, appearance, and animation type separately.
- Saving the Result
Once you’ve put an image over a video and done editing, preview the result once more from the very beginning. If you are satisfied with the result, hit the Create Video button to render your video. You will be offered to choose from several options – create video for your computer, TV, mobile phone, burn it to DVD or make a clip optimized for social networks. If you decide to burn it to a DVD you can select the menu template, and replace the texts and images there to suit your needs. If you select a video for mobile phones, you will be able to pick the exact model of your phone. In any case, on the last step before rendering your video, adjust the frame size and the quality of your video and hit Create Video.
